JOSEPH DETERS

Obituary of JOSEPH ANTHONY DETERS

JOSEPH (JOE) DETERS

After a few months struggling with health problems Joseph Anthony Deters passed away at Actionmarguerite-Taché Centre on September 20, 2019 at the age of 79 years.

Joseph was born in Bruno Saskatchewan on November 29 1939 to the proud parents Herman and Anna (Renneberg).

Herman Deters’ family moved from Oldenberg, Germany to Le Mars, Iowa where Herman was born. When he was 13 the family homesteaded north to Cudworth, SK.  Anna Renneberg’s family moved from Hogan Germany to Minnesota then to Cudworth, SK where Anna was born. Herman and Anna met and got married in Cudworth SK. They had 4 children, Clarence, Elmer, Joseph and Caroline.

Joe was 8 years old when the family moved from Saskatchewan to a farm south of Minitonas, MB. He got part of his early education in Saskatchewan and then in a country school, Ravensworth, which was 4 miles from the farm.

After this he helped on the family farm. Joe loved the farm with horses, cattle, pigs, chickens, a dog but especially cats. After his parents died, Joe helped his older brother Elmer on the farm until their retirement. Then they bought a trailer in Swan River where they moved for the winter and back to the farm in the summer months. They did this for years. After his brother, Elmer passed away, Joe could not stay alone in Swan River, so his sister, Caroline, had him move to Winnipeg where she could more easily take care of him.

Left to mourn Joe’s passing are: his sister Caroline, Missionary Oblate Sister, two nieces, one in The Pas MB: Lana Hrappstead (Conrad), their three sons, Richard, Alan (Sheena) their daughter Nala, and Brian (Shawna) their two sons Brett and Luke and one daughter Arizona. In Winnipeg, Andrea Deters (Mike Yarema) have three children, Alexandra, Matthew and Mason. As well as a few cousins left in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Joe was predeceased by his parents: Herman (1971), Anna in 1984; brothers Clarence in 2006, his wife Lucy 1998 and Elmer in 2013.

The family is most grateful to the doctor and nursing staff at Actionmarguerite-Taché Centre for the care and compassion shown to Joe during his short time there.
