Obituary of BRUCE WIERBICKI

BRUCE WIERBICKI

June 6, 1951 - September 15, 2019

After a 12-month struggle with cancer, our dear husband, father, brother, friend, Bruce Wierbicki passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on September 15, 2019 at the age of 68.

Left to carry his memory forever in our hearts are his wife of 12 years, Janis, his beloved daughter, Jennifer (Luis) and her mother, Joanne (Chuck), brothers, Larry (Linda) and Paul, special aunt, Stella, cousin, Jim (Carol), and many other relatives and friends.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Corinne, his Grandma Wierbicki, and special uncles, Al Wierbicki and Pete Patenaude.

Bruce was known to all for his energy, sense of humour, love of and caring for all his friends and family members.  He was a great entertainer, cook, famous for his BBQs and house parties.  He took pride in his home, his flowers and landscaping.

At St. John’s High School, he had been a star athlete in track & field and Tigers football.  This was followed by U. of M. where he played for the Bisons football team.

In 1984, Bruce’s daughter, Jennifer was born.  No one could have been a more dedicated and devoted father than Bruce was to Jennifer.  Their bond remained strong throughout the years.  She was the love of his life.

An amazing quality that Bruce possessed was evident in relation to his work with special needs adults.  During over 20 years of employment as a Support Worker, he had the ability to connect and establish a rapport with his clients, often beyond the expectations or experience of his superiors or of his clients’ families.  He had a rare skill which was related to his basic kindness and interest in helping people.

Janis and Bruce were together for 21 years.  They enjoyed travelling to many locations including Mexico, Cuba, Europe, and England.  Favourite spots were Puerto Vallarta, Paris, Montreal, and Bath, England.  They also shared interests in music, movies, and were big Blue Bombers and Jets fans.

“Bruce, you have been such a large force in all of our lives.  We will never forget you and what you have meant to us.  You will be in our thoughts and hearts forever.”

A celebration of life for Bruce will take place on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations in memory of Bruce may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
