MARY HNITUK

Obituary of MARY HNITUK

MARY HNITUK (Muckoshy/Muckosky) Peacefully in the early hours of October 22, 2012, Mary passed away at Oakview Place which had become her home for the last few months. Mary is lovingly remembered by her son Richard, daughter-in-law Terrie, her grandchildren Kristee-Jo (Shawn), Nicole (Mike) and, the light of her life, her great-grandson Jack Hnituk Clement. Mary was predeceased by her husband Joe, her sisters Julia (Melesko) and Nettie (Barron), her brothers Walter, Paul, Mike and Bill, her brothers-in-law Nick Melesko, Herman Ratchinsky, and Leonard Kruger and her sister-in-law Ann Muckosky. She is also remembered by her sisters Olga Ratchinsky, Anne Pedersen, Martha (John) Shymko, sisters-in-law Rose Muckosky and Helen Muckosky and brother-in-law Ed Barron as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Mary was born on September 20, 1914 on the homestead near Sky Lake Manitoba. At a young age she moved to Winnipeg where she ultimately met her husband Joe. They raised their son Richard in West Kildonan where she took great pride in her family, home and garden. From a very young age Kristee-Jo and Nicole enjoyed many a Saturday at their Baba’s – listening to stories, watching TV with Baba and Gigi and a ‘sleepover’! This family tradition has been carried on by Richard and Terrie (Gigi and Nana) who enjoy every sleepover and moment spent with Jack. Time with your grandchildren is so important! Following Joe’s passing, Mary sold her home on Smithfield and moved to the Crystallite Apartments on Partridge. Most recently she was a resident of Oakview Place in order to be closer to her family. Sincere thanks to the staff on 2 West at Oakview who became part of Mary’s ‘extended family’ and treated her with dignity and respect – you always had a smile or a hug for Mary. All of you are very special, dedicated people! The Funeral Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Saturday, October 27 at 9:30 a.m. with viewing commencing one hour prior. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Inc. (Please specify Breast Cancer), Rm 0N1160 – 675 McDermot Avenue Winnipeg R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice.
