OLGA RATCHINSKY

Obituary of OLGA RATCHINSKY

Olga Ratchinsky

April 7, 1916 - July 25, 2019

It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother after a full life on Thursday, July 25th at the age of 103.

Olga was loved and cherished by her daughter Valerie Falk, son-in-law Mel, her grandsons Bradley and Barrett, daughter-in- law Aidan and her great- grandsons Ethan and Rowan. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Herman in 1967 and her treasured son Bryant. She will be remembered by her sisters Anne Pedersen and Martha Shymko and her sister-in- law Helen Muckosy and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Mom was also predeceased by her parents John and Tillie Muckosy, her brothers Paul, Walter, Mike and Bill, her sisters Julia, Mary, and Nettie and many brothers- in- law and sisters-in- law from her side and also our dad's side of the family.

Olga was born on April 7, 1916 in the hamlet of Skylake, MB and raised on a homestead. She moved to the city where she met and married her husband and raised a family. Mom worked at Ready Foods for many years and she retired at the age of 65.

Times were not always easy for her growing up in a large family in rural Manitoba but she learned to count the small blessings as a result of her upbringing and to value what matters the most in life. She was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family first. Her grandsons were her pride and joy as witnessed by the many photos she surrounded herself.

Mom was extremely hard-working. She loved her garden that she tended to with much care. When dad passed away suddenly, she persevered and remained strong for her family. She carried on and demonstrated independence and determination. She had a strong will and that strength carried her through to the end. In 1999 Mom sold her home in West Kildonan and moved into a condo at Kenaston Estates where she lived independently until she was almost 98 years old.

Special thanks to the entire staff at West Park Manor especially the caregivers on 2N for taking such great care of mom. You are all very special people and we are grateful for how you treated mom with great compassion.

Funeral services will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Friday, August 2 at 10:00 a.m. For those who wish viewing will be held prior to the service. Interment will be held later in the day at Brookside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Park Manor Personal Care Home, 3199 Grant Avenue, R3R 1X3 or a charity of your choice.
