Obituary of VLADIMIR (VLADO) GOMERCIC

Vladimir (Vlado) Gomercic

Peacefully, with family by his side, Vlado passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Health Sciences Centre.

Vlado was predeceased by his wife Ivanka (Benes), parents Nikola and Ana, brothers Djuro (Ivka) and Tona.

Left to cherish his memories are his two sons, Mario (Melody) and Rob (Joanne). He will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Brenden, Matthieu and Danica.

He is also survived by his partner, Barbara Paulic, sister-in-law Maria from Croatia, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Vlado was born in Virovitica, Croatia on September 4, 1945. He married Ivanka on January 6, 1968 and together they immigrated to Canada in 1970. They worked hard to adapt to their new life and raise their two sons in Winnipeg. He spent many years playing and coaching soccer.  Although soccer was his first passion, he enjoyed watching hockey and football as well.  Vlado loved his family and was very proud of all their accomplishments.  His favourite pastime was watching his grandchildren play in their various sports. He always made time for his family.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the first responders and to the ER doctors and nurses for their care and compassion.

Prayers will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at 10:30 at St. Nicholas Tavelich Roman Catholic Church, 2688 Main Street.   Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. following prayers.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Vlado’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
