Obituary of Anne Balon
Anne Balon
November 1, 1925 – May 16, 2019
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Anne Balon (nee Papish) passed away May 16, 2019 at Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her parents; all her siblings; children Raymond and Joanne; and husband Michael (Mike) Balon. She leaves to mourn, her daughter Gladys (Miron), son Ernie (Pat), grandchildren Dennis, Lori (Noel), Kristi (Kevin) and Bob (Tammy), and great-grandchildren Raina, Emily, Hunter and Owen.
Anne was born in Tarnopol, Saskatchewan to Stephen and Eva Papish. She was the youngest of their children. She spent her early years on the family farm in Tway, Saskatchewan.
On November 21, 1943 she married Michael Balon in Wakaw, Saskatchewan. She brought Gladys and Ernie into the world first, followed by Raymond and Joanne, both of whom unfortunately died shortly after birth. They began to raise their family on the family farm in Tway, before moving to Petersfield, Manitoba in the early 1950’s. The family later settled in Winnipeg. Anne worked at Quinton Cleaners for many years, as well as the Fort Garry Grill.
Her favourite pastime was cooking. She was always happiest in the kitchen whipping up everything from her famous chicken noodle soup to perogies, cabbage rolls, sausage and so many other scrumptious dishes.
Most often the beneficiaries of her cooking were her family. She was most happy amongst those closest to her. Many hours were spent with her loved ones enjoying her cuisine, playing cards and bingo, many of these times being at the legion.
As the years rolled on, and her grandchildren were born, Mike and Anne bought a cottage at Winnipeg Beach where their family has continued to spend countless hours. Now, after so many years, it’s not just their children and grandchildren who have benefited from their time at this home away from home, but also their great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend its thanks to the staff at Maples Personal Care Home for taking care of Anne this past four years.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2019 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Internment will be at Glen Eden Cemetery.
