LUIS DO COUTO FERREIRA
May 15, 1938 – May 14, 2019
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Luis do Couto Ferreira on May 14, 2019 at Deer Lodge Center at the age of 80 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Teresa Medeiros do Couto and José da Costa Ferreira. Sisters, Conceicão (Jacinto) Coreira and Teresa Ferreira. In-laws, Humberto, Maria de Jesus Basidio and brother in law José Luis Arruda.
Luis leaves to mourn his wife Maria Madalena, of 51 years. Daughters Fátima (Mario) Ferreira, Paula (Marc) Da Silva, Nélia (Ricardo) Moreira. Grandchildren, Kevin (Diana), Stephanie (Kenan), Alyshia, Jessica, Joshua, Kianna, Briana and great-grandson Dominic. Also leaving to mourn are his siblings José (Maria do Jesus) Ferreira, -São Miguel. Virgilio (Fernanda) Ferreira and Gabriela (Manuel) Rego. Sister in laws Eduarda, Conceicão and Rosainha (Manuel) Pacheco -São Miguel. As well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren in São Miguel and Winnipeg.
He was born and raised in Ribeira Seca, Riberia Grande – São Miguel, Açores. In 1974 he immigrated to Canada along with his love Madalena and two daughters Fátima and Paula. They settled in the West End area where years later their youngest daughter Nélia was born. Luis worked in construction for many years retiring at the age of 65. Once retired he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling back to São Miguel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to CancerCare Manitoba.
The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Center – 6 East and Dr. Henry.
Prayers will be said on Friday, May 17 at 6:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street N.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 18, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave.
