Obituary of JOSEPH BODNAR
JOSEPH BODNAR
Joseph was born on March 10, 1924 in Zablotce, Western Ukraine and passed away peacefully on May 10, 2019 in Winnipeg at the age of 95 years.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, his wife Katherine and his son John and is survived by his daughter-in-law Frances, grandson Jonathan and family in Ukraine.
He worked on a farm in Austria during the war years and immigrated to Canada with his wife and son in 1948. The family lived and worked on a farm in Kamsack, Saskatchewan and then moved to Winnipeg in 1959. Joseph was employed for many years in the custodial department in the School of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba.
In his retirement years, Joseph enjoyed his garden and apple trees and socializing at the Seniors' Club at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Thank you to the staff at Maples Personal Care Home, especially Troy, Donna, Eva and Jason as well as the nurses and doctors at the Seven Oaks Hospital Dialysis Unit for their kindness and compassionate care.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Bashutskyy officiating. Interment at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph's memory may be made to Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Avenue; or a charity of one's choice.
