It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Theresa Laj. On April 30th, 2019 at the age of 88, Theresa passed away with her family by her side at Seven Oaks Hospital.
Theresa was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Steve Laj,.
Remembering to forever cherish Theresa’s memory are her daughters Kathy Brnjas and Suzi Laj; granddaughters Natalie, Jennifer (Marko), Danica and great grandson Bepo. She will also be missed by her sisters Mara and Anka, brother Joza (Mara) niece Janet and nephew Michael with their extended families.
She was predeceased by her parents Marko and Eva Vuglac, siblings, Stjepan, Bara, Vera and Slava, son-in-law, Zlatko, bother-in-law Steve.
Theresa was born in Kamenica, Zagorje, Croatia 88 years ago. She immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in April of 1957, and in February of 1958 married her husband Steve. Theresa worked at Richlu for 20+ years as a seamstress. She spent her free time doing what she loved most, spending time with family, sharing coffee and stories with friends at Tim Horton’s, creating crafts and friendships both at Fred Douglas and River Ridge II, cooking, baking, gardening, travelling, and spending time outdoors. Theresa, until her final days was an active member of the Croatian Parish, St. Nicholas Tavelich, and the Croatian community.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to all who have helped in this difficult time. Also, a special thank-you to Dr. Appel and her team at Kildonan Medical Centre, in addition to the home care providers of the WRHA and staff at River Ridge II that supported her in the community until her last days.
Prayers will be said on Friday, May 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Tavelich Roman Catholic Church, 2688 Main Street, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 4th at 11:00 a.m. with Rosary beginning at 10:30 a.m. also at the Church. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street.
