Obituary of ARTHUR PATRICK GEORGE

ARTHUR PATRICK GEORGE

October 21, 1924 – April 20, 2019

Peacefully, with family by his side, Art passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the age of 94.

It brings us comfort knowing that his spirit is with Mom, his parents, son Artie, grandson Cory Wall, 3 brothers and their wives Charlie (Joan), Robert (Aileen), Donald (Irene) and other relatives and friends.

Art was born and raised in East Kildonan to parents Chas and Lillian (nee Henderson) George.

Art is survived by one sister, Lillian George.

In 1942, Dad enlisted in the RCAF. Dad served overseas attaining the rank of pilot officer as navigator on a Lancaster Bomber. At the time, the Lancaster, with a 7 man crew, was the biggest and best bomber. They flew mostly at night, bombed at 11:00 p.m. and were back to base by 1:00 a.m. There were about 300 planes flying at night with no lights on. As well as bombing; they also placed mines in the harbours of the Kiel Canal/Norway to destroy German war ships.

Returning home from the forces in 1947, Dad was a patient at St. Boniface TB Sanitorium for 9 months.

It was there that he met a beautiful nurse, Stephanie Annuck. They married in 1947 and celebrated their 70th Anniversary prior to Stephanie’s passing in 2017.

They raised two children, Pat (Ted Wall) and Art (Georgina). They were blessed with grandchildren: Trevor, Jereme, Chelsea (Jacob), Ashlea and step-grandchildren, Melanie (Jared), and Robert (Vanessa); also great-granddaughters, Kria, Tenley, Emmerson, Grey, and step-great grandchildren: Mallory, Ben and Nina.

Art joined CNCP telecommunications as a teenager, retiring after 43 years with the position of Plant Technician.

In retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed trips to England, Wales, Scotland, Australia and New Zealand. Travelling by motorhome across Canada (especially to visit son and family in Toronto) and a winter in Texas were also special.

Dad maintained his independence at home, even though he did express loneliness since Mom’s passing. He continued to drive; buy his own groceries; and manage all banking.

The tragic accident and passing of son, Artie (April 3, 2019) was heartbreaking for Dad!

We are very grateful to Dr. L. C. Bartlett for his 45 years of friendship and medical care given for Dad and Mom.

We extend our gratitude to EMS and Concordia ER for their care of Dad after his fall. Our thanks to Dr. Pilat and all the staff at Concordia Hospital for their kindness.

Cremation has taken place and a private family reception is planned to honour Art’s life.

A special thank you to family and friends who have offered their support.

As Dad would say “Bob’s Your Uncle”
