Obituary of ALEXINA (INA) NEVAY SNIATKOWSKI

ALEXINA (INA) NEVAY SNIATKOWSKI

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Alexina Nevay Sniatkowski (nee Dickson) on April 3, 2019.
She will be remembered and deeply missed by her children, Ted (Elaine) and Betty (Bob), by her grandchildren, Rob (Susan), Jason (Stacey), Kathy, Karen and Andrew, by her great-grandchildren, Amelia, Justin, James and Megan, and by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends, especially by Eunice Synnott, her closest friend of many years, whose family she loved like her own.
Ina was predeceased by her parents, David and Elizabeth, by her siblings, Maggie, David, Lizzie, Jackie and Andrew, by her beloved husband of 47 years, Mike (Dmytro), and by her son-in-law Peter Pellaers.
Ina was born in Dundee, Scotland. She worked in the jute mills there, beginning at the age of 14. During the war she met her future husband, a Polish sailor. In 1955 they moved to Winnipeg in hopes of providing better opportunities for their children. Over the years Ina made many good friends while working at the Victoria Hospital and later at Woolco's Red Grill Restaurant.
"Nani" was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Generous with her time and her love, she never forgot a birthday card or a special day. We were all lucky to receive gifts of her knitting, loaves of bread, meat pies or cabbage rolls, and to hear her stories about home. She enjoyed every moment of her life and we were happy to share it with her.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Annand and Mackenzie from Mount Carmel Clinic, Dr. L. Madi, and Anita and Tamara from Palliative Care for their help and visits over the past few months, and the staff at Concordia Hospital for their excellent care during her last few days. A special thank you also to Kenneth Dickson, for his help honouring her memory in Scotland.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
