Obituary of MELVIN (MEL) HAROLD LINDSAY

MELVIN (MEL) HAROLD LINDSAY
(July 6, 1956 – April 21, 2019)

Suddenly, on Sunday April 21, 2019, Melvin (Mel) Harold Lindsay passed in Winnipeg at the age of 62.

He is predeceased by his parents Arnold Lindsay and Rose Lindsay, and sister Carolyn Lindsay.

Mel is survived by his son Marc (Sunnie), daughter Jennifer Shantz (Mike), granddaughters Zoey, Emma and Talia as well as Marc and Jennifer’s mom Cathy, brothers Gary (Jan), Stan (Angie) and sister June Bell (Doug), long time partner Wendy, along with many other extended family members.

Mel was born and grew up in McCreary, Manitoba and lived there until the age of 18, he then moved up to the small northern town of Gillam with his family where he started his career as an electrician working on hydro dam projects in the region. Eventually moving back to Winnipeg he began his 38 year career with Manitoba Rolling Mills (MRM) in 1981 which later became Gerdau Steel in Selkirk, Manitoba. He was known to be greatly dedicated to his job and respected by coworkers throughout the years for his ingenuity and problem solving capabilities.

Mel was a very involved father in both Marc and Jen’s life as they grew up. He always made sure they knew they were supported and loved no matter what.

Papa, as he was known, was devoted to his three granddaughters. He loved spending time with them whether it was popping by for a visit to taking them skating, swimming, to a dance class or watching them play hockey. His biggest joy was seeing the smiles on their faces and never missed a birthday, Christmas concert, or any important event in their lives.

Mel will be deeply missed and never replaced. We loved him dearly.

A special thank you to the EMT’s and the many medical professionals at Seven Oaks Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Mel to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
