Obituary of MARY MULARSKI
MARY MULARSKI (KUZYK)
August 2, 1914 - April 24, 2019
Sadly Mary passed away at Holy Family Home at the age of 104 years. Until her death, she was the oldest resident at Holy Family Home.
She was born to John and Katherine Kuzyk in Hazelridge MB. She was the eldest daughter of fifteen children.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Mularski, in 1989. She was also predeceased by both her children, daughter, Margaret Ellen Szarun (John) and son, Murray John Mularski (Jean).
She is survived by three grandchildren, James Kerr, Colleen Sinkarsin, and Mary-Ruth “Ruthie” Dentry (Corwin).
She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Laura Sinkarsin (Justin Thomas), Benedict Dentry and Quinn Dentry and further survived by two great-great granddaughters, Allison Thomas and Kayleigh Thomas.
Mary has one brother surviving, Ernie Kuzyk (Muriel), and two sisters, Sonia Sikomas and Florence Kuzyk, along with many nieces and nephews.
There is so much one could say about Mary ("Granny"). She loved all children. She babysat Laura and Ruthie from very young. She toilet trained them, formed the Sunshine Club for them to grow up with and called those two only children, "cradle sisters", fostering a lifelong bond between the two.
As a mother-in-law to John Szarun and Jean Mularski, she kept us up to date with the latest family news. John remembers the chicken soup she made every time he visited. Jean remembers living with her husband and Mary all her married life and the wonderful help she was to her in so many ways.
Mary worked at Eaton's Department Store downtown for 33 years. She also was a domestic, nanny, and worked cleaning offices, stores and homes.
Granny only had a grade five education, but she was a wise woman. She never learned how to divide, but she was a great speller.
Granny loved to lecture, read books and the newspaper, and tell stories. Many looked forward to her tales of long ago. She honoured her father and mother and possessed a great love of family. She would spend lots of time weeding, planting and watering her garden. She loved her times at the family cabin at Winnipeg Beach. Mary had a lot of miles on her.
Mularski's had the first television on Aberdeen Avenue and all neighbours were welcome to come over and watch it. Once Mary ordered a top of the line bed for their bedroom and Albert complained about the cost. They argued about it until finally Mary went to the room, got out $100 and placed it on the floor. She said: "You sleep on that, I'm going to bed!"
Mary growing up was quite the kid. Once she found her mother's wedding dress, cut it up and made doll clothes. Because she was the eldest girl in her family, her mother placed great responsibility and trust in her. Her family thought of her as "mother" when Katherine passed on. Mary looked after her mother's finances and will.
Mary travelled out east to visit family and loved Alberta where she would visit her daughter and family.
Pallbearers will be David Tchir, Norman Tchir, Leonard Kuzyk, Dennis Kuzyk, John Sikomas and John Szarun.
Honourary pallbearers will be James Kerr, Colleen Sinkarsin, Laura Sinkarsin and Ruthie Dentry.
The funeral of Mary Mularski will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with lunch to follow. Interment will be on Monday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Transcona Cemetery.
