Obituary of RORY KEITH MAIN

RORY KEITH MAIN

BORN: APR 16, 1951 DATE OF PASSING: APR 14, 2019

After a lengthy illness Rory passed away on April 14, 2019 at home surrounded by his family.

He will live on in the hearts and memories of his wife Phyllis, his children, Jessica (Christian), Katie (Steve), Meghan (Riley), Michael (Nancy), grandchildren Cassidy, Dana, Tricia, and his sister Shelley (Paul). Rory was predeceased by his parents Irene & Keith Main.

Rory attended Churchill High School and later received his welding ticket at Red River Community College. He worked as a foreman for Mitchell Welding, where he built and designed trailer hitches. At Mitchell Welding he was known as the “Golden Child” and was highly regarded for his hard working nature, welding and design skills. This is also where he met his wife Phyllis of 39 years.

Rory was always chasing that adrenaline rush, whether it was his Mustang, boat, snowmobile or 900 Kawasaki Motorcycle. He always had exciting stories about all the injuries he endured including a full body cast, but he never let that stop him.

Rory then worked in construction framing houses. He built decks and fences in his spare time. He also, built his daughters and nieces high-end wooden furniture for their Barbies.

Rory was a member of the West Kildonan Legion and the Fish & Game Club. He and Phyllis bought an RV that quickly became known as “The Bus.” Rory loved loading up the kids and heading out to St. Ambroise or Rushing River on fishing and camping trips. It was no secret that Rory was no fisherman. However, he looked forward to getting on the water so his family could do the fishing and he could do the napping. These camping trips brought Rory and Phyllis to Lac Du Bonnet where they parked “The Bus” permanently. This quickly became their home away from home, and led to many lasting friendships. Rory and his band of merry men spent countless weekends and holidays cleaning up the property. He was always ready to take his kids on boat rides and tubing. In more recent years he loved spending time at Winnipeg Beach with his family. Rory and Phyllis travelled to Melville, SK to visit his son and daughter-in-law as often as they could.

He was known as Keith by many. He loved to spend time laughing and having a couple beers with friends and family while telling stories and reminiscing. Rory enjoyed football and spent years with his wife and daughters at the Nomad's Football Field cheering on his son. He quickly became an avid football fan. Aside, from watching his son play he enjoyed watching the Bomber games on T.V. with his wife. He loved watching all different sports including hockey, Nascar, curling, boxing and wrestling.

In later years Rory worked as a custodian at the University of Manitoba. He was always a “neat freak” and so this career change was very fitting for him. He enjoyed doing the dishes and always kept the house organized and clean. Rory was known for his delicious spaghetti and his family always looked forward to his Denver eggs on Christmas morning.

Rory spent his last year at home in the care of his wife Phyllis with the assistance of family and many homecare workers. The family would like to say a special thank you to Amy and Jenn who became more than neighbours to him and his family. They are amazing friends who spent countless hours visiting with Rory over the years. He always looked forward to their many visits. Thank you to Dr. Crawford who cared for Rory for the past 27 years and who had his utmost respect and trust. Although, Rory hated being in the hospital he did appreciate all the care given to him at Seven Oaks, St. Boniface and Misericordia hospitals over the past 19 years.

His most cherished love was saved for his family. His favourite person in the entire world was Phyllis. He loved his children and precious grandchildren very deeply. They always brought sunshine into his world. There are no words to describe how much his family will miss him.
