Obituary of ALEXANDRA RADZYMINSKI

ALEXANDRA RADZYMINSKI (SARBIEWSKA)

(February 27, 1918 – April 12, 2019)

Alexandra passed away at Grace Hospital into the loving arms of her Saviour, Jesus Christ.

She leaves behind her beloved family, daughter Lela Gaska, with grandchildren Teresa, (great-grandchildren Scott and Alexandra), Jeffrey (Tanya), (great-grandchildren Evan and Aaron), and Glen. Daughter Mary Bibik (Jerzy) with grandchildren Renata, Michelle (Jason) (great-grandchildren Kiera and Cameron), Celina (Severin), (great-grandchildren Autumn, Bianca, and Erik), and dear devoted son, Edward.  She is also survived by sister-in-law Zenobia and her family, Barbara (Marcel), Richard (Kathy), Donna (Allan) and Eddie with their families.

She was predeceased by her husband, of almost 57 years, Henry in May 1995, her dear grandson Mark in March 2009, her parents and all her siblings in Poland as well as her brother, Janek in 2016 in Winnipeg.

Alexandra was born in the village of Rembowo, Poland to Bronislawa Lonczinska and Franciszek Sarbiewski.  She was the 4th of 9 children.  At the time of her passing Alexandra was the last remaining sibling.   At the age of 20, Henry, who was in Canada but came from the same village, asked for her hand in marriage.   On the advice of her mother (to seek a better life), she left her homeland and travelled on the ship Batory to Halifax, Canada. Not knowing English she then travelled by train to Winnipeg where she was met by Henry.  They married August 22, 1938 in Holy Ghost Church in Winnipeg.  The two travelled to Henry’s homestead located south east of the town of Gladstone, Mb.

They started out their married life living in a makeshift home in a granary while building a permanent home.  They worked tirelessly side by side growing their mixed farming operation.

Shortly after their son, Edward was born in 1954 they sold their farm and moved to Winnipeg where they had purchased an apartment block on Young St.  After living there for a short time they bought an apartment block on Portage Avenue in St. James.    Together, side by side, they did all the work from painting, cleaning, repairing, renting etc.   They made do living in a 2 bedroom apartment.   In 1960 they sponsored John and Zenobia Sarbiewski to Canada.   Due to Henry’s heart problems they retired and moved to Ainslie St. in St. James.    They never forgot the needs of their family in Poland and helped them financially.   Alexandra was very active in the Catholic Women’s League of Canada council at Holy Ghost Church.  Both Henry and Alexandra were members of Holy Ghost church and active members of Polish Gymnastics Association Sokol.    They very much enjoyed road trips with friends to parts of Canada and United States as well as returning to Poland to visit family.

Alexandra continued to live on Ainslie St. along with her son Edward.   In her later years she enjoyed attending the Seniors Day Care at Oakview Place, and Charleswood Adult Day Club until it became too difficult to attend.   She remained in her home, thanks to the dedication of her son Edward and home care workers.  Sincere thanks to home care workers:   Pani Barbara, Mildred, Sharon, Christine, Alona, Jocelyn, Amy, Swarnjit, and Rhoda.  Special thanks to Dr. Ronald George who took care of Mom in her last days and to the staff at Grace Hospital. Thank you also to Dr. D. Winogrodska for all her care and support.

Alexandra was a very loving, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  We thank God for letting us share in her life.  Kochamy Cie Mamusiu, Babciu i Prababciu!

Pallbearers will be Jason & Cameron Rohs, Richard, Daniel & Josh Sarbiewski and Tim Gysel.
