Obituary of LEON GEORGE GANAS
LEON GEORGE GANAS
December 7, 1938 - April 4, 2019
Leon passed away peacefully on April 4, 2019 at the age of 80.
He leaves behind his sons Daniel (Michelle), Christopher (Jane), grandson Ethan, granddaughters Elliot and Amelia, and his sister Katherine, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Eleanor (2010) and daughter Leslie (2010).
Leon was born and raised in Winnipeg and attended St. Paul’s High School. He worked for National Drug Company of Canada before embarking on his life long career at Manitoba Blue Cross, the company to which he retired as Vice President in 2001.
Leon was a long time Jets fan, sharing season tickets for many years with his lifelong friends Zeke and Dan. Leon’s passion was to travel, either on lengthy, adventure filled road trips with the family and later, coaxing Eleanor onto planes to jaunt half way across the world, often to Europe, but as far away as Australia, Japan and the Cook islands. Leon’s greatest love was family, though a man of few words, he was quick to offer his love and support to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all those he has left behind.
Sincere thanks and deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Holy Family Home, who treated Leon with the utmost dignity, respect, love and care. We cannot thank you enough.
