For some twenty five years Don was my good friend and a vital part of my life. He gave unfailing kindness and cheer to everyone. I will always keep these wonderful memories with me. For that I am deeply grateful.

It was always a pleasure to meet Don with his big smile and great personality and broad accent. He was always eager to join the Winnipeg Barbershoppers for their Christmas Yuletide concerts. Condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear of Don’s passing. He was a very special man. Don coached me at Tatra, in fact was a player coach in my early years there, which was remarkable considering I’m 28 years younger. The bond he had with Dave was something special, perhaps most evident when we played Waskeegin from Chicago during our annual ThunderBay visit. My life was richer for having known Don.

My mom, dad and I sang with Don in Grey Street Church Choir for many years; and enjoyed participating in many church dinner theatres together. My dad and Don shared many laughs, great conversations, and similar interests both at church and outside of church. My fondest memory of Don will always be after Christmas Eve church service, he would always say to us kids in front of our parents, ‘Now make sure to get up real early Christmas morning to see if Santa has been there yet; the earlier the better!’
My thoughts are with all of you. Don will be fondly missed.

I remember meeting the family after their arrival from Scotland. Don played football with my Dad at A.N.A.F Scottish. We had many good times with the family. I last saw Don at Hall of Fame induction dinner. He never changed. I am truly sad and send my condolences to the remaining family.

I’ve been away from Grey St for many many years but have often thought of Don, sharing choir time, sharing fundraising efforts and always remember that he made everyone laugh and smile... my son, now living in New Zealand remembers him fondly also as Don took such an interest in Bradley’s growing years. It was always a pleasure to see Don when I returned for dinners and special events at Grey St..Peace to all his family

Eighteen months ago my wife (trish) and I decided to go to pittsberg to see Dave, Jackie and all the family. Unfortunately uncle Donny was unable to come over so detoured to Winnipeg to see uncle. I am so glad I did because it gave us the opportunity to see that city, uncle and his friends Edna and Barry who had done so much for him and who were great support. So pleased we made the effort to see a marvellous man.6

So sorry to have to say good-bye to Grandad! My favorite name for him! We met when Dave married Jackie! Knowing him for the past 38 years was such a joy! He spent a lot of time in Pittsburgh following his Son and Grandsons in their Soccer career! It’s in their DNA! Grandad, a gentleman, kind and personable! Such a special man! I will miss you! Much love!

Caledonian FC historian and former Club Secretary Ian Davidson paid tribute to his late uncle. He said: “On a personal level my Uncle Don was someone we always looked up to from a very young age. His sporting achievements are remembered by many and well documented over many years, and very much made him a hero to us.
“He was very much a gentleman both on and of the park, and was never booked or sent-off throughout his illustrious playing career.
However, above all, he was a family man first and foremost, the world will be a poorer place for not having him with us, he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.”
