Obituary of ROBERTA MAGNUSSON
ROBERTA LEE ANNE MAGNUSSON
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Roberta at the age of 51 on December 27, 2018.
She was born to Johnny and Joan Michasiw on February 10, 1967 in Hamiota, Manitoba. She received her education in Shoal Lake and after graduation attended Brandon University receiving her Bachelor of Education (AD) degree. She continued taking evening classes to obtain a degree in Special Education. She moved to Dauphin where she worked with special needs adults at PRVSI, was involved with Dauphin’s Ukrainian Festival, Zirka and the Riding and Dancing Cossacks, was on the board of the Watson’s Allied Arts Centre, helped organize Citizens on Patrol and taught at Smith Jackson School. It was her passion for working with special needs children that took her to Winnipeg where she accepted a job at Bernie Wolfe School. No task was too big or too small, she gave it her all. She loved all the children she worked with and they enjoyed coming to her room because of the neat things she had there.
She met the love of her life and in October 2005 she and Ken married. She became a mother to his children and loved them unconditionally. Her greatest pleasure was obtaining her Commissioner of Oaths and officiating at the marriage of her stepdaughter Amanda and fiancé Krystyr on December 1, 2018. Bert had an infectious smile and a beautiful voice. She sang at many weddings. She had an eye for interior decorating and loved her flower gardens. Her Ukrainian ancestry brought out her artistic side as she mastered the art of making Korvia (Ukrainian wedding bread decorated with wheat, doves and flowers) for many a wedding or anniversary.
Roberta is survived by her loving husband Kenneth, stepchildren Amanda (Krystyr) Smedvik, Randy and Allie, step grandson Xander, parents Johnny and Joan Michasiw of Shoal Lake, brother Jeffrey (Annette) and Mikayla Michasiw of Dauphin, in-laws David and Doris Magnusson, sister-in-law Carol (Bill) and Emma, all of Selkirk and brother-in-law Robert (Maria), David and Anna of Port Coquitlam, BC, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. Interment to take place at a later date.
