Obituary of JOAO DE OLIVEIRA RAPOSO
JOAO DE OLIVEIRA RAPOSO
March 8, 1939 – October 27, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joao on Saturday, October 27, 2018 after a brief illness.
He leaves behind to mourn his loss his dear wife of 54 years Lurdes, his daughter Nelia (Bob Chlopecki), grandchildren Alexis and Braedan, and his son David. Also mourning his loss are his brothers-in-law Manuel do Rego (Lurdes), Joao do Rego, sister-in-law Leonore Valentim (Jose Carlos). Also mourning his loss are his nieces and nephews and extended family throughout Canada and in the Acores.
John was predeceased by his parents Manuel and Maria de Conceicao, his brothers Francisco and Manuel Raposo, sisters Zelia Sousa and Maria Machado, sisters-in-law Maria Adelaide and Maria de Deus Raposo, brothers-in-law Ernesto Sousa and Jose Machado, and his in-laws Antonio and Maria dos Anjos do Rego.
John enjoyed many traditional Portuguese customs, such as wine making, gardening, and harvesting his bounty from his garden. Above all he always made sure his family was provided for. He volunteered at the Portuguese Association and enjoyed socializing with many old friends there. He was always ready to lend a hand to his friends and especially his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Our family thanks all those who provided medical assistance to him at Seven Oaks General Hospital and to the Home Care staff who assisted with his care at home.
Prayers will be said on Thursday, November 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 2, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin Street, with interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. Pallbearers will be Joseph Machado, Dan Sousa, Carlos Machado, Lucas Machado, Victor Machado, and Chris Machado.
We Love You, Rest in Peace.
