Obituary of BOHDAN PETRYCKY
Bohdan Petrycky
1926-2018
It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle on September 13, 2018 at his residence. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Eugenia, granddaughter Christine (Chrissy), infant grandson Stephen. He leaves to mourn his children: Irene (Jerry) Seadon, George (Denny) Petrycky, Ihor Petrycky, Lydia (Bill) Cox; grandchildren: Tera (Chris) Zaluski, Tracy (Mike) Hildebrand, Andrew (Hazel) Petrycky, Kathryn and Elizabeth (Lisa) Petrycky, Nicholas (Nick) Cox; great-grandchildren: Chase and Brooklyn Hildebrand, Gage and Holley Petrycky, Aria Zaluski; sisters: Steffa (USA) and Lashia (Ukraine); sisters-in-law: Berta Pniowsky, Donna Gareau; and numerous nieces and nephews
Bohdan was born in Tauriw, Ukraine, married Eugenia Pniowsky in Austria in 1947 and settled in Winnipeg in 1949. In Europe Bohdan had been pursuing studies in law which were interrupted by war. Here Bohdan worked for Canadian Pacific Railway for 37 years moving up the ranks from labourer/wiper, to fireman, to engineer.
Bohdan was a home body who loved to be with his family and work in his yard and garden. He strongly supported his Ukrainian Catholic Church and culture. He was an active member of the Winnipeg Philatelic Society and was a regular member of the Dufferin Seniors’ Dance Club. Bohdan was a caring, compassionate gentleman with strong opinions and a good sense of humour. He leaves a void in the lives he touched.
Special thanks to Irene Baron Eden Center, where Bohdan resided the last 4 years, for their friendship and support of him and his family.
Prayers will be said on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 965 Boyd Ave, with a Celebration of Life to follow in the Church Hall. A private family funeral mass and interment will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Bohdan may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of MB, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
