Obituary of SHIRLEY MAE BOYD
SHIRLEY MAE BOYD
August 5, 1934 - September 13, 2018
Peacefully at the age of 84 with her family at her side it is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of our Mother, Sister, Grandmother and Aunt.
She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2014 and her son John in 2009.
Shirley leave to mourn her two children Laureen (Stew) and Lorne and five grandchildren. Riki, Ryan, Cole, Landon and Reese, her sister Josephine and their family.
After 25 years of working at Eaton’s Shirley retired at the age of 65. She was born and raised in Winnipeg where she married the love of her life, Gordie on September 29, 1956. They were married for 58 years until his passing. In Moms younger day she was an avid figure skater where she would spend hours at the local community club skating the day away. She was offered a position with Ice Capades but stayed behind to have a family. Mom and Dad often joked about how they met. Shirley's version being that she met Dad through a mutual friend when he didn't have a date to a function. Dad always denied that story laughing and saying he could always get a date. I think Moms version was right. Shirley belonged to her ladies club for over 60 years where her same group of friends got together regularly to visit. Shirley loved spending time at the cabin in Grand Marais with her family. She was always ready for good company and some good laughs. Shirley enjoyed her yard and spent hours gardening and planting flowers. We will miss her cooking where she was always in the kitchen cooking up a storm. Her perogies, cabbage rolls and Perishke were her signature foods and we will miss sitting at dinner time enjoying her company and eating the best Ukrainian foods.
We will be OK Mom, you taught us strength by example and we love you for that. Shirley will be sadly missed by all her knew her. We will love you forever. Until we meet again.
The family would like to thank the ICU and all the staff at St. Boniface for the compassionate care given to Mom.
An informal gathering to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 19 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, spend time with your loved ones and say a prayer for Mom.
