Obituary of MARIKA (MARY) MILES
Marika (Mary) Miles (nee Narajiwsky)
Sept 27, 1946- Aug 3, 2018
Peacefully in her sleep, Baba passed away in the early morning of Friday Aug 3, 2018, while vacationing with her life long friend, Vicky, in Cape Breton Nova Scotia.
Left to cherish this amazing woman is her daughters Sam (Shandra) and Sheri, her special son-in-laws, Manny and Sean, and her grand children Zachary, Madison, Makayla, Aidan & Ethan. Also left to mourn is her brother, Morrie and his family, Barb, Nicole, Matthew, Veronica, Kalle, Jessie and Mia. Mary was blessed to have a friend for over 65 years, Vicky, who along with Allan, Laura, Rob, Angie, Ron, Jack, Nadia & Ava were her second family. She also has many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Ksenia & Iwan, her great niece, Samantha and her sister in law, Heather.
Mary was born in Hanover, Germany on September 27, 1946. Along with her parents, she came to Canada in May 1951, on the M.S. Nelly. They settled in Winnipeg, with Mary spending her childhood in the North End. She had various job throughout the years but Mary was always a mom and baba before anything else. She retired upon the birth of her first grand child, allowing her to watch the grand children grow, which became her whole purpose. She was thrilled to have five grandchildren, encouraging each of them to be their own individuals. Baba was there biggest fan at all their sporting events.
Mary lived a full life and enjoyed spending time with her many friends. She was thrilled to reconnect with her good friend Gloria.
Mary faced many health issues through the years with strength and determination. We lovingly teased that she was like a cat with nine lives. She loved good food and was an amazing cook, however rarely did she enjoy a full meal, as she was always too full from “sampling” while she cooked. As her diet became more restricted and she tried “to be good”, however she was known to just sneak a little from time to time
Mary was very creative. She was our family seamstress, who we always turned to when we needed our name bars sewn, our pants hemmed or our favorite stuffie’s repaired. She loved making crafts, baking, painting and made the worlds greatest cabbage rolls.
Special thanks to Laura, Rob, Jack, Nadia, Ava, Vicky & Allan.
According to Baba’s wishes a private interment has taken place.
In honor of Mary, please hug your family, tell people you love them, take time to have coffee with friends and enjoy the little things in life.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, plant a tree.
