Obituary of JOSE FONTES BORBA
JOSE FONTES BORBA
It is with great sadness that our family announces that José Fontes Borba passed away on June 25th, 2018 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital.
José was born on August 13th, 1933 in Calheta, São Jorge in the Azores Islands, Portugal to Albano and Felicidade Borba. In 1955 he moved to Portuguese Angola. There he met his wife, Zelia, and the two were married on February 4th, 1961. Together they had two daughters, Maria and Felicidade. Soon after, in 1965, José moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba and brought his family over the following year. He worked at the Health Sciences Centre. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and spending time with family. José died following complications related to his heart and cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Zelia, his daughters, Maria Shinnie (Steven) and Felicidade Borba, his grandchildren, Eric, Mark, Lara, and Graham, sister Maria Faustino, twin sister, Amelia Mendes, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, João Borba, and his son-in-law, Stephen Watson.
The family sincerely thanks Dr. L. Da Silva for his long-term care of José. We also thank the entire staff of the Seven Oaks General Hospital on the fifth floor, Unit 7, for their attentive care, with special thanks to Doctors Finlayson and Meredith, who cared for him in his final days. We also thank our friends and family for their incredible support.
