ALEKSANDRA WUJEC

Obituary of ALEKSANDRA WUJEC

ALEKSANDRA WUJEC It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Aleksandra Wujec on September 7th, 2012. Aleksandra was born in Lodz, Poland. She and her late husband, Stanley (deceased 1986) met and married in Belgium where she completed her studies as a Registered Nurse. Following the birth of their first son John, they immigrated to Canada in 1951. Left to cherish Aleksandra’s memory are her son John (Halina) and grandson Christopher (Jen), great-granddaughter Ava, daughter Danuta (George) Czubak and grand children Maia (Michael), Danika and Mikala, and son Tom (Sandra) and granddaughter Mikayla. Affectionately known as Ama, she will also be sadly missed by her extended family, Donna, Karen, Elliott, and Jola Bara Gruszka and family in Poland. Aleksandra will be especially missed by her dear friend Earnest Fedaras. Aleksandra was proud of her professional accomplishments as a caring nurse in Belgium and Canada. Her career spanned over 30 years in psychiatric and general nursing at the St. Boniface and Misericordia Hospitals and at the Winnipeg General Hospital (Health Sciences Center). Aleksandra was a vital member of the Winnipeg Polish community. For many years, she sang with the Polish Sokol Folk Ensemble, taught Polish Folk dancing at the Sokol Hall and participated in Folklorama. She held various community organizational and fundraising positions, particularly for the Polish Manor and the Polish Folk Ensemble. In 1976, Aleksandra raised funds to build a Solar Telescope for the Winnipeg Planetarium to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Copernicus. Always known for a positive outlook, Aleksandra lived her life fully and on her own terms. Full of energy and blessed with a colourful personality, Aleksandra was a fabulous storyteller - easily switching between English, Polish and French – and a passionate world traveler. She loved singing, dancing and walking for miles, which she did almost every day. Her special joy was her great-granddaughter Ava. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14th, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm followed by prayers at 8 pm at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 15th, 2012 at 9:30 am at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
