Obituary of HERCULANA FRIAS
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother and sister Herculana Frias.
On June 5, 2018, surrounded by her family, our mother passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Left to mourn is our father, her husband of 47 years Raul Frias, her daughters Elda Cabral (Emanuel), Celina Philpot (Glen), Goretti DiMartino (Joseph) and Natalia Frias-Prins (Tyler). As well as her grandchildren Benjamin, Jacob, Gabriel, Madeline, Antonio, Liliana, Christian and Marcus and sisters Maria Dos Anjos Rocha, Laura Viveiros and Lucilia Benevides. As well as her numerous nieces and nephews. Our mother is predeceased by her parents João and Teresa Rocha, her brother Marcelino Rocha, brothers in law João Viveiros and Humberto Benevides.
Our mother immigrated from São Miguel, Azores to Canada in 1969. She and our father married in 1970 and chose to settle in Winnipeg to raise their family. She retired from a lifelong career as a seamstress in 2006 to help care for her grandchildren, which brought her great joy. Our mother lived for her family. She was selfless, kind, caring and loving mother and friend. She had wit and boundless humour that could light up a room.
We thank the oncology and palliative care of Dr. Fatoye and his staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for all their care and support.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, June 8, at 1:00 p.m, viewing commencing at 12:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street North. Interment to follow in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.
