Obituary of GEORGE (GEO) ALLAN BUDNIK
GEORGE (GEO) ALLAN BUDNIK
November 26, 1931 – April 7, 2018
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather “Geo” on April 7, 2018 at the age of 86. We were able to honor his wishes and he passed away at his daughter Susan’s home with family at his side. We will deeply miss and love him always.
Geo is survived by his daughters Debbie Mazur (Richard, children Tim, Leah and Alex Vaags and son Clark); Janis Klassen (Frank, sons Jarod and Brittany Klassen and son Chase, Joshua and Lauren Klassen and sons Carter and Cash); Susan Budnik Pilon (Mike and son Spenser); sisters Margaret Didenko and Irene Robinson, brother Al Budnick and son Jason; sisters-in-law Alice Taylor and Arlene Dumka and numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his wife Thelma, his sister Ann Hart (Cookie), brothers-in-law Jim Taylor and Russell Dumka, niece Katherine Dumka and his parents Mary and Alex Budnik.
George grew-up in Point Douglas, a young man who loved playing sports of all kinds, though his passion was football and later in life golf. He was one of the founding members of the Winnipeg Hawkeyes Junior Football Club and over the years coached many players and worked tirelessly on the executive raising funds for the team. He shared his love of sports with all his children and grandchildren, attending many volleyball, hockey and football games over the years and was their proudest and “loudest” fan. George worked many jobs, often two at a time to take care of his family including Fleming Pedlar, SunLife Insurance, Gordon Hotels and finally retiring from Canada Post after serving 24 years as a letter carrier.
He took wonderful care of our mother, nursing her for many years which allowed her to remain at home until she passed in 2014 after 61 years of marriage. We would like to thank the Home Care Assistance company led by manager Dennis Fancy and care givers Conner, Syl, Romeo, Carol, Jacqueline and Myra for the outstanding compassionate care and comfort they provided our father. We also would like to acknowledge the WRHA Palliative Care team and home care aids Noel, David and Peter plus Holly and Dana from Munroe Pharmacy and Jana at Tache Pharmacy. Everyone’s kindness helped our Dad retain his dignity and gave the family peace of mind.
As per Dad’s wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will take place on Monday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Manitoba division of the Canadian Cancer Society.
