KATHERINE MIECHKOTA
July 3rd, 1915 – March 18th, 2018
With sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife and baba on Sunday, March 18th, 2018. Katherine Miechkota nee Bugiera passed peacefully with family by her side at Bethania Personal Care Home at the age of 102 years.
She leaves to mourn her son Ron and wife Lorelie and son, Patrick. She also leaves three grandchildren, Aaron and wife Lauren, Brooke and Alexander and one great-grandchild Skye. Katherine was also baba to Amanda and Sean, Aaron and Christy and Andrew and Signe and their children: Joshua, Jordyn, Elin, Jrue, Lena and Adele. She will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Katherine was predeceased by her husband Walter, her parents, Joseph and Anna, siblings; Caroline and John, John and Mary, Nettie and Walter, Mary and Steve, Antonia and Joseph and Edward. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law and husband, Mary and Harry. She was the last survivor in her family.
Katherine was born on the family farm on July 3rd, 1915. She attended the school and the Roman Catholic Church in Dobrowody, Saskatchewan. She loved her life and community in rural Saskatchewan and often shared fond memories of these times. During World War II, she went to Thunder Bay to help with war efforts for the Canadian military. After the war she moved to Winnipeg and met her future husband Walter Miechkota. They were married in 1952 and raised two sons in Winnipeg. They shared almost 50 years of marriage until Walter’s passing in 2001.
Katherine was an active member at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church until its closure. She worked for Gaspard’s making gowns once her sons went to school. She loved gardening, canning and preserving foods. Her family enjoyed her homemade meals especially during the holidays. Katherine was proud of her families’ accomplishments and always stressed the importance of a good education, a good job and living a healthy lifestyle. The family would like to thank the staff of Bethania Personal Care Home for the comfort they offered her during her last years.
A funeral service in honour of Katherine’s life will be held on Saturday, March 24th at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Home,1442 Main Street, presided by Father Isidore Dziadyk. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery in West St. Paul.
