Obituary of RAYMOND MYRON STROKON

RAYMOND MYRON STROKON

August 10, 1944 – December 13, 2017

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Strokon on December 13, 2017.

Ray was a proud Northender.  He grew up on Church Avenue where he resided until his passing.  He attended St. John’s High School then went on to join the R.C.M.P., where he was stationed in Saskatchewan.  He left the R.C.M.P. and returned to Winnipeg to help run the family business, Rite Way Dry Cleaners, located on North Main with his mother Olga.  At this time he also pursued a career as a professional photographer, capturing many weddings and other events.  Several of Ray’s photos were used as standard postcards of the City of Winnipeg for many years.

Ray was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage and was a long standing member of the Ukrainian Professional and Business Club of Winnipeg and the Son’s of Ukrainian Pioneers (S.O.U.P. Club) where he enjoyed volunteering.  He was also, a fixture at many Ukrainian cultural and educational events throughout the Province.  Equally as proud of his time in the R.C.M.P., Ray became an active member of the R.C.M.P. Veterans Association where he made many friends and enjoyed volunteering for social and fundraising events.

Ray is survived by his half-brother Robert Sudoma and wife Deb, along with their children Michael and Christina.  He is also survived by extended family located throughout North America and Ukraine.  He was predeceased by his father Walter Sudoma and mother Olga Strokon.

A graveside service will be held at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street (Hwy. #9), West St. Paul on Thursday December 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or CancerCare Manitoba as he fought and won his battle with cancer.
