Obituary of HARRY KRUK

Harry Kruk

May 8, 1928 – November 23, 2017

After a brief illness, Harry passed away at Seven Oaks General Hospital on Nov. 23, 2017 with his loving family at his side. He leaves to mourn his wife, Elsie of 65 years, daughters Linda ( Paul ) Bailes and Joanne ( Paul ) Barré, grandchildren Joanna, Matthew,  Jonathan, Hannah and Stefan.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Harry was the son of Sawa and Anna Kruk, and the youngest and only surviving sibling to John, Bill, Sam, Peter, and Tilley. He attended St. Nicholas School and St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, where the family was involved in the building and maintenance of the church.

Harry was in part, a North End icon, as proprietor of the BA/ Gulf Service Station at Magnus & McGregor and Kruk’s Auto on Arlington. In later years, he took pride in driving taxis and limos, and working for Handi-Transit, transporting clients from St. Amant and then he became a user of Handi-Transit himself, attending Day Program at Holy Family Home for 14 years.

Harry was a devout man to his faith and until his passing, he enjoyed singing Ukrainian responses to Mass at Holy Family where he resided over the past year.

The family is grateful to the WRHA Home Care staff who cared for Harry over many years, to Dr. Nadine Lecuyer, who he respected dearly, and to the dedicated staff at Holy Family Home. Harry’s passions in life were simple:  his love of God, family, friends, food, cars and all dogs. He will be remembered for his repeated jokes and storytelling.

Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 11am. A private interment will follow.

If so desired, donations can be made in memory of Harry to Holy Family Home, Alzheimer Society Manitoba or Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue.
