Obituary of ANNE MARIE CHECKRYN
Anne Marie Checkryn
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Anne Marie Checkryn on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Middlechurch Home.
Anne is predeceased by her beloved husband Leon who died in 1988 and was the last surviving sibling in a family of six.
Anne will be dearly missed by her daughter Barbara and son-in-law Brian Rivers of Eagle Hill, Alberta, son Leon and daughter-in-law Pat of Lethbridge, Alberta and their children Jason and Suzanne of Calgary, Aaron of Innisfail, Alberta and his children Olivia and Gabriel.
Anne was born in Fort William July 22, 1921 and was the last surviving of a family of six. Anne’s life was spent working hard from cleaning homes to soda shops, wiring planes during the war and working at Eaton’s. One of her enjoyments was getting together with her friends at the local Bowling Alley where she met Leon and married in 1948. In 1949 they moved to Terrace Bay, Ontario where they had “the best 10 years of their life” with Anne learning Bridge, bowling and making the best homemade pies and spaghetti sauce for the café that Leon managed. In 1959 they purchased Transcona Bowl and moved back to Leon’s home town of Winnipeg. Although Anne was a private person she was a loyal friend, a supportive wife, a gracious lady who was admired for how well she looked after her home, her family and herself. She always said that Estee Lauder should be paying her.
Funeral Service will take place on Monday, November 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment at Green Acres after reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, 280 Balderstone Rd., West St, Paul, MB R4A 4A6
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of B2 for their care and compassion in Anne’s final days. Their support was more than appreciated.
