RUDY REICHART

Obituary of RUDY REICHART

RUDOLF (RUDI) REICHART 1948 – 2012 It is with deep sadness that his family announces the passing of Rudi, on August 22nd at his home with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Annegret, his son Roman, daughter Oriana (Derek), granddaughter Haven and special friend Amy, his in-laws; Wolfgang, Marianne, Roland, Claudia and Declan Kubel, his sister Roswitha, his brother Richard and many nieces and nephews in Austria and his loyal companion "Simba" who deeply regrets biting Cropo staff. Rudi was born on January 21, 1948 in Furstenfeld, Austria. Upon completion of his diesel mechanics training in 1966 he embarked on a 10 year journey, traveling the world with the Merchant Marines. In January of 1977 at the Nutmeg bar in Grenada, he met the love of his life, Annegret. Rudi and Annegret spent the next two years falling in love and exploring the Caribbean on their sailboat Lady Ann. Unfortunately, Lady Ann caught fire and sunk off the coast of St. Lucia, but this did not stop Rudi; he was determined to make a sailor out of Annegret. Their search for a new boat led them to Germany where Rudi spotted "Manta"; an old 100 ft fishing trawler with no engine and a bilge pump that would barely keep it afloat. Rudi loved a challenge and within three months started his 21 day journey across the Atlantic back to Barbados. When Rudi arrived in Canada in 1978, he knew this would be home forever. Soon after, he married, and settled in Lockport, and started his career in Canada at Champion Road Machinery, and after 17 years Rudi started his own business. The success of R & R Construction was a testament of his high level of knowledge and skill, dedication, charisma, his intuitive knack for problem solving and his love of sharing his knowledge with others. Rudi was a very loving and devoted father to his two children; never missing a hockey or soccer game. Rudi’s love for nature and the outdoors was shared with his children at a very early age. Many summers were spent at Beresford Lake, boating, fishing and hunting; which instilled this same lifelong passion for the outdoors, in them. He also loved pitching for the Lockport Cherry Bombs for over 20 years and the many hunting and fishing trips with the guys throughout Manitoba and North West Ontario. But most of all, he enjoyed the company of family and friends, including the many animals that he had cared for over the years. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, generosity, patience and good hearted caring nature. We wish to express our special thanks to Dr. MacMillan, Rhonda and Cancer Care Manitoba for the compassionate care they gave to Rudi and his family. Thank you to all of our friends and family and the special people at the Boundary Creek Marina that were there to help us throughout the last couple of years. A Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 28 at 7:00pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may donate in Rudi’s memory to the Addiction’s Foundation of Manitoba, 1031 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3G 0R8. Rudi’s ashes will be laid to rest in front of the water tower in Winnipeg Beach aboard Lady Ann, on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 1:00pm. Please join us by land or water.
