ASHLEY TARYN DOUGLAS

December 14, 1993 – October 15, 2017

On Sunday, October 15, 2017, after a courageous fight with brain cancer, we lost our beloved daughter Ashley at the age of 23. The profound sense of loss is unimaginable. It has left her mom who was her best friend broken and her family and friends devastated. Ashley is survived by her parents, Reid and Nadia Douglas; her sisters Amanda (Barrett); Lisa(Chris)and Lesley;  her brothers David and Brian; her adored Gram Shirley Douglas; niece and soul mate Alyssa and nephews Devin, Ethan, Chase, Joseph and Edward; her Uncles Bruce (Jaclyn) Douglas and Tyrone and Harith Alzubaidi and many members of her extended family.  She is also survived by her beloved Christopher Ruchkal with whom she was planning the next phase of their lives together at the time of her passing. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Usama and Margaret Alzubaidi and her paternal grandfather Edward Douglas.

Ashley was born in Winnipeg on December 14, 1993. She was an amazing baby and little girl and it became evident at an early age that Ashley was truly a golden child. She enjoyed the wonders of her surroundings and had a perception and creativity for all things that was truly rare. At the age of 6 she moved with her family to her beloved North Vancouver where she lived life to the fullest making life friends, going to school, working and touching everyone she met. Ashley and her Mom moved back to join Dad and Amanda in Winnipeg in 2010 where she continued her journey by graduating high school. At the time of her passing she worked at Corrientes on Bannatyne Ave. She truly loved her job, the patrons and made many life friends there.

Just like her Mama, Ashley was a true artist, and loved many crafts creating displays of beauty from phone cases to walls to flower creations and beyond. Ashley also loved nature and everything in it. She adored all animals and was a huge animal advocate helping any animal in need that she came across. Ashley was also a huge music lover and as she wanted to be a singer, she was starting to write her own songs that she planned on recording.

Ashley lived life to its fullest. She loved with all her heart and never a day went by when she didn’t tell us how much she loved us. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends and was compassionate and generous to all she felt were less fortunate. She touched the lives of everyone she met and always lit up every room she entered.

We would like to thank Dr. J Beiko and his team, the caring staff at HSC and Grace Hospitals, The Community Stroke Care Service Team, and the wonderful staff at Riverview Health Centre, particularly Sherri and Adrianna for their friendship and dedication to Ashley during her rehabilitation there.

A celebration of Ashley’s life will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 8:00 PM at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
