Obituary of MARGARET ELIZABETH MILLARD
MARGARET ELIZABETH MILLARD
(nee Alexander)
With her family by her side, on Sunday, September 17, 2017, Margaret peacefully passed away at Fred Douglas Lodge in Winnipeg.
Margaret was born in Winnipeg on September 20, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of the North End. She attended Luxton School and St. John’s High School where she met three good girlfriends, and they remained close throughout their entire lives.
With her parents hailing from Scotland, Margaret was a first generation Canadian. She enjoyed a career at Eaton’s Department Store in the office as a Comptometer Operator up until the time she married Arthur Millard in 1946. They were both animal lovers and their home was always shared with various pets. Margaret’s cat Missy was her faithful companion and joy in later years.
Margaret was a doting grandmother and her most precious moments were spent sharing time with her grandchildren. She was a voracious reader from a young age herself, and she loved to sit and read stories with her grandchildren.
St. Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican Church played a very special role in Margaret’s spiritual life and she was a member of the Altar Guild there for over fifty years.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty (Ray) Larkin and Margaret (Stan) Banasiak, as well as her grandchildren, Marni Larkin (Lyle Misura), Daniel Larkin, Thomas Banasiak, Chelsea Banasiak, Robin Didur Jr., and Casey Didur. She is also survived by her nephew Ronnie (Marilyn) Alexander in California.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, her three brothers, her husband, her youngest daughter Ann Didur, and numerous four legged family members.
A sincere thank you is extended to the Fred Douglas Lodge caregivers on the Evergreen Unit for showing kindness, friendship and compassion to Margaret during her stay there.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. presided over by Reverend Mary Lysecki. Lunch will immediately follow the service at Cropo’s.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Margaret would appreciate it if donations were made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a no-kill animal shelter in Winnipeg.
