Obituary of MARIA DAASE
MARIA DAASE
(NEE FALTEN)
We sadly announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on
August 13th, 2012 at the age of ninety-one. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Maria was born May 27th, 1921 in Urwegen, Romania to Peter Falten and Maria (nee
Kessler). As a young woman, she worked as a child care provider. She survived a Soviet Labour Camp from 1945-1947. Subsequently, she immigrated to Germany where in 1951, she met and married Albert Daase, a widower with three children; Hilde, Eli and Harry.
In 1953, the family immigrated to Canada and became members of Central Baptist Church. While caring for her family, she enjoyed her work in housekeeping at the Health Sciences Nurses Residence and Laboratory facilities until retirement. Albert's declining health necessitated a move to Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home in 1984. Maria moved to the adjoining apartments and was able to assist with his care until his death in 1986. Maria loved to socialize. As one of the original tenants, she became an active volunteer and was recognized for her long service. Mom enjoyed good health during her lifetime, was able to travel and was a blessing to others. Her faith remained a primary source of strength.
Besides her husband, Maria was predeceased by an infant brother, her father, mother and
daughter Hilde.
She leaves to mourn sons: Eli (Irma), Harry (Adelle); grandchildren, David (Maryann),
Darlene (Jim), Carol (Sean), Vera Lynn (Bruce), Gary (Sharon), Kurt (Jody), Barbara (Konrad), Jason (Tammy), Justin (Elena); son-in-law Ron and twenty-two great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Home Care and Victoria Hospital 4 North for their care and compassion. Special thanks to Chaplain John Friesen at Victoria Hospital and Chaplain David Holland and Darlene Holland for their ministry to Maria and her family. We are grateful to Tammy Daase for all her efforts to be of service to Mom and the family.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Meadowood Manor, 577 St. Anne’s Rd. with viewing prior to service.
If so desired, donations in Maria's memory may be made to the Chaplaincy of Meadowood Manor or charity of choice.
