Obituary of CARMEN COLLINS
CARMEN COLLINS
(NEE DOERKSEN).
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carmen Collins (Nee Doerksen). She passed peacefully on July 28, 2017.
Predeceased by her parents, Abe & Anne Doerksen, husband, Max Collins, daughters Konnie & Kim Collins.
Left to mourn are: Delvina McGregor (Ken Lake), Wade Collins, Larry Collins, Sandra Collins, grandchildren: Courtney Little (Jonny Little), Jason McGregor, Lawrence Torrie, great-grandchildren: Emily, Kaitlyn & Addisyn Little. Also mourning her passing are her brothers Marvin Doerksen and Lorne Doerksen.
Mom was born in Ross Spur, BC. Her parents along with her 12 siblings settled in Meadow Lake, SK. This is where she met our dad, Max Collins. After only a few years, they moved to Prince Albert, SK. From there, they moved to Thompson, MB in 1962. Dad had gone ahead, leaving Mom to bring four kids by train to Thompson. The family moved back to Prince Albert in 1969, this time with five children. In 1971, it was back to Thompson and then one final move to Winnipeg in 1973.
She was a stay-at-home mom until the move to Winnipeg. Mom always said she was in the right place at the right time. She was hired by the Manitoba Clinic Lab. There she learned to be a Urinalysis Technician and Bleeder. Mom had the softest hands and was always called for the babies. She worked for the Lab until her retirement in 2003.
She enjoyed retirement. It allowed her the time to discover lawn bowling, darts, painting, quilting, woodworking, crafting with Sparks and Brownies. She re-discovered sewing. She also loved going on road trips, and most of all, spending time with her great-granddaughters.
We take comfort knowing she is surrounded by loved ones we have already said good bye too. Being so much to so many, her loss will be felt always, but together, we will rebuild our foundation of family.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, August 13th 2017 6:30-8:30 Sinclair Community Centre 490 Sinclair St, Winnipeg, MB.
