Obituary of LENA HUMENIUK
LENA HUMENIUK
(nee ZAHARA )
December 29, 1922 - July 14, 2017
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, at the age of 94, at the Golden West Centennial Lodge.
Left to cherish Mom's memory is her daughter, Marie Zerbin (Ray) of Winnipeg, son, Dr. John Humeniuk (Karen) of Greenville, South Carolina, grandsons Kurt Zerbin (Kara), Todd Zerbin (Leanne), Dr. Michael Humeniuk (Katie), great-grandchildren, Micah, Nora, Jane, Sam, Hazel, Andrew, step-great-grandchildren, Baxter, Aislyn, sister-in-law, Florence Zahara, brother-in-law, Nick Smerechynski and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, father John Zahara, mother, Mary Zahara, brothers, George, Malloy, Jack, Bill, Nick and sisters, Sadie and Mary.
Lena was born in Gardenton, MB and married her husband on November 21, 1942.
For a few years they lived in Headingly, MB, in a train station, and then moved into Winnipeg. Mom and dad went on many trips together including Greenville, South Carolina, Los Angeles and the Ukraine. Mom had many great times going to Casinos and Branson, Mo, with her friend Mary Mykytyn. After dad passed away on May 14, 1997, mom stayed in her home until 2011. She moved into assisted living at River Wood Square and then into a personal care home.
Family was very important to mom. She always had family in her home during holidays and other times, and always provided lots of her food and baking.
MOM: You were always there when we needed you, no task great or small. With a loving heart and a helping hand, for us you did them all. Many thanks for all the years you gave us and, for all the times we shared. We knew that when you left us, you knew how much we cared. With all our love, your children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, compassionate caregivers at the Golden West Centennial Lodge.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
