JEAN ALICE KIAZYK (nee FLEURY)

Born: May 29, 1924

Date of Passing: June 19, 2017

JEAN ALICE KIAZYK (nee FLEURY) It is with great sadness we say goodbye to our dearly beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, Jean Alice Kiazyk. Jean passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and family on June 19, 2017. Jean was born in Woodlands, Manitoba on May 29, 1924. She was one of thirteen children born to her parents, Marie-Rose Milette and John Alfred Fleury. Her early life was spent working on the family farm. Jean married the love of her life, on July 13, 1942 to Walter Kiazyk. Together they had nine children. During their life together, they especially enjoyed travelling and going to football games.

Jean was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Theresa’s Parish, in Middlechurch, Manitoba.  She enjoyed playing bingo and participating in other activities with her seniors club.  She was an active volunteer at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg well into her 80’s.  She never thought of herself as “old”.  Jean spent many special occasions with her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for her family; always providing more food than necessary.  She made sure no one ever left hungry. She loved to sew, knit, and quilt.

Jean is survived by her children; four sons; Stan Kiazyk of Lorette, Orel Kiazyk and Wendy Anne Smith of West. St. Paul, Chris and Barb Kiazyk of Beausejour and Daniel and Kari Kiazyk of Minnedosa; four daughters, MaryAnne and Joe Nawrot of West St. Paul, Sophie Kiazyk of Beausejour, Andrea and Karl Jaek of Winnipeg and Karen and Don Kaatz of Lac Du Bonnet; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sisters  Irene Bouchard and Ida Lachance Bouchard and brother George Fleury. She was predeceased by her spouse, Walter Kiazyk (November 10, 1999), son Kevin, daughter in law Rachelle Kiazyk (nee Gauthier), sisters (Agnes Tuliao, Elizabeth Medynski, Theresa Feal and Gertude Barc), and brothers (Alfred Fleury, Charles Fleury, Rene Fleury, and Alexander Fleury).

Jean loved her family with her entire heart and always encouraged them to love, do their best and to help others. She was very proud of their accomplishments. Jean was a good friend to everyone she met. She would drive her friends to and from church and social activities. She enjoyed making perogies with the C.W.L. and for her family. Her family always looked forward to mom’s perogies, millionaire’s relish and soft chocolate chip cookies. Her love of gardening was evident in the huge garden she cultivated each year and the bounty of which she shared with many. Jean took interest in the less fortunate and supported numerous charities over the course of her life. The family thanks those who cared for Jean at Actionmargeurite - St. Joseph’s Residence.

In accordance with Jean’s wishes, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Parish, 3597 Main Street on Monday, June 26 and Vigil Prayers will be held on Sunday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m. also at St. Theresa’s Parish with Monsignor Ward Jamieson and Monsignor Maurice Comeault officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to St. Theresa’s Parish, 3597 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB R4A 5A2. REST IN PEACE MOM.
