Obituary of PATRICK RAYMOND GARRITY

PATRICK RAYMOND GARRITY December 30, 1932 – April 16, 2017 Peacefully on Sunday, Patrick passed away at the Riverview Health Centre. Patrick is survived by his beloved wife Helen, children, step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Kathleen, brothers Richard, Raymond, John, Brian and James. Patrick was predeceased by his parents, sister Mae and brothers Roger and Robert. Patrick was born in Dearborn, MB on December 30, 1932. At the age of 6 years he moved to Winnipeg, MB with his family. In 1948, Patrick joined the Reserved Army, then in 1951 he joined the active Canadian Forces 27th Infantry Brigade, Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regiment. In 1954, Patrick, with the Canadian Armed Forces was sent to South Korea to enforce peace keeping and was promoted to the Corporal rank. In mid summer of that year he returned to Canada and was stationed at the Fort Osborne Barracks as part of the recruiting unit. At that time he was promoted to the Sargent rank. Patrick took parachuting training at the Rivers, MB Military Camp and received his parachute wings. In 1957, Patrick chose to leave the active Canadian Forces. After being employed at the Canada Postal Service for 30 years, Patrick retired in 1991 as Manager of Retail and Delivery Services, which includes today the Community Mail Boxes. After Patrick and Helen retired they enjoyed their country life at their mini ranch outside Gardenton, MB. While there they pursued their hobbies - gardening, fishing, horseback riding and truly enjoyed nature in general. Funeral Service and Panahyda will be celebrated by V. Rev. Archpriest Eugene Maximiuk on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment will follow at the St. Michael’s Orthodox Cemetery in Gardenton, MB. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations in Patrick’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. The family wishs to express their sincere gratitude to the Staff at AB 2 Wing at the Riverview Health Centre who took excellent and compassionate care of Patrick during his 2 year stay.
