Obituary of John Borowiec
JOHN BOROWIEC
Peacefully, with his family by his side, John passed away on August 7, 2012 at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 82 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Tessie, daughter Carol (Lyall), son Dave (Joanne), grandchildren Jason (Megan) and Scott (Amanda), great-granddaughter Brooke, sister Genowefa (Waclaw), nieces, nephews and extended family in Winnipeg and Poland. John was predeceased by his parents Pawel and Aniela Borowiec, son-in-law Chester Tabor.
John was born in Nowy Michalin, Poland on February 19, 1930. As a 9 year old, his life was changed forever by WWII and Soviet invasion of Eastern Poland. He and his family were deported east through the Soviet Republic to Szabunia. As refugees, his family traveled through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kirgystan, and the Middle-East to Colonia Santa Rosa, Mexico. In 1948, he came to Canada where he was reunited with some of his extended family in Stonewall. He soon moved to Winnipeg, where he found work.
John met and married Tessie, the love of his life in Winnipeg. They would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 26, 2012. He worked in construction until being hired by the Canadian Pacific Railway, where he worked of 37 years, retiring in 1989.
John spent many hours league bowling with friends. He was also an avid outdoorsman, spending much of his free time fishing, hunting, golfing and blueberry or mushroom picking. After retirement, he was passionate about his farm at Whitemouth Lake, where he escaped to enjoy these same outdoor pursuits, although in later years he was more likely to watch the deer and the fox, rather than hunt them.
John was a quiet man who was extremely devoted to his wife. His family was his #1 priority.
John was loved by many friends and neighbours and will be sadly missed by all.
The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Sikora, Dr. Lyn and Dr. Wong, along with their staff for their empathy.
