Obituary of MARIA ANTONIA ANTUNES FERREIRA
MARIA ANTONIA ANTUNES FERREIRA
On December 11, 2016 at the Health Science Centre, Maria Antonia Antunes Ferreira, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 91 peacefully with her family by her side.
She is predeceased by her husband Adolfo in 1993. Maria leaves to mourn two daughters, Joana (Raul), and Prazeres; son Manuel (Custodia) of Winnipeg. She also leaves to mourn 6 grandchildren, Dina (Paulo), Miguel (Selena), Diniz (Diana), Celia (Steven), Raul (Colleen), Sabrina (Joseph). She also leaves to mourn 6 great grandchildren, Malfalda, Ana-Beatriz, Olivia, Lucas, Sienna, Zoe. Maria also leaves to mourn 3 brothers in Portugal, Jose, Manuel and Mariano.
Maria was born in Moitas Venda, Portugal in 1925, she was the oldest of 8 children. After becoming a widow, she moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her children. There she spent time with her family and also enjoyed her hobbies. She loved cross word puzzles, sewing, crocheting, gardening among other things. Maria had a known passion for chocolate often hiding a stash under her bed. She was well known and loved for her inappropriate comments, often being taught to the grand kids. She was never an animal lover, until 2010 when she adopted a kitten from the street. She nursed him back to health and have been inseparable since, even sharing the bed, and that is where he still remains missing her deeply.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful and kind doctors and nurses at Health Science Centre for taking such great care of her and the family.
Prayers will be held on Friday December 16 at 7pm at Cropo. Funeral and burial will follow in Portugal as per her wishes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name at a charity of choice.
