Obituary of RICHARD KARPENKO
RICHARD KARPENKO
After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts that we announce Richard's passing with loving family by his side on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the age of 35 at Selkirk General Hospital.
Left to cherish his wonderful memory is his loving wife, Bridget, sons Austin and Carson, mother Brenda and father Paul, brother Paul (Stacie) and nieces Brooke and Abbie. Also, left to cherish his memory are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Richard was born on June 7, 1981 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. At an early age, Richard developed a love for sports excelling in many. He played football for Winnipeg Nomads and earned recognition for his outstanding performance as quarterback and running back. His offensive skills were seen on the ice while playing hockey in Garden City. On the baseball diamond Richard was a home run hitter and on the pitching mound he was a strike out king. He had a special artistic talent, creating many memorable sketches of the boys and a variety of other drawings. At the age of 23 Richard met Bridget, the love of his life. They built a life together and were blessed with two sons, Austin (11) and Carson (7). There was nothing more important to him then his family. Numerous memories will be cherished of the time they spent together skating, riding their quad, fishing, swimming and playing video games with the boys. He really enjoyed golfing with Paul and they made memories together on the course. In October 2015, Richard was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma. He fought this battle with strength and courage with the support of family and friends. He always remained positive and showed empathy towards others. He felt comforted having his family at his side throughout his illness and having Bridget, Austin, Carson and his mother with him around the clock as his condition worsened. The family would like to thank everyone for their support. They would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Gingerich, Dr. Banerji, Dr. Akra, Dr. Prematilake and Dr. Demsus. A special heartfelt thank you goes to Selkirk General Hospital and Home Care workers for their compassion, dedication, support and exceptional care. Austin and Carson would also like to thank the "Snack Shack Lady"' Rhonda for looking after them.
A celebration of Richard's life will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel,1442 Main St.
