Obituary of SOPHIE STASZKIEWICZ
SOPHIE STASZKIEWICZ
nee: Durtka
1923 – 2016
Peacefully, on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the Kildonan Personnel Care Home Sophie passed away at the age of 93. Sophie was born September 22, 1923 in Poland. While working as a nurse with the Polish Army she met the love of her life Henry, they married November 27, 1945 in Italy. After liberation by the Polish army they moved to England. In hopes of a better life the decision was made to immigrate to Canada May 20, 1953.
Sophie was strongly devoted to her family and church. She was a very outgoing person and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her would agree. She was always the first to lend a hand whenever needed and still made time to volunteer endless hours with Polish Gymnastic Association Sokol. Sophie was also an excellent homemaker, gardener and cook, family dinners where delightful. We all especially enjoyed those wild mushrooms, which she and Henry spent hours picking every fall. Their cabin at Grand Beach was always full of family and friends and many memories were created there.
Sophie was predeceased by Henry April 1, 1999 and is survived by her sister Kasha, sons Richard (Ruth), Joseph (Bernadette), grandchildren Christopher (Michele), Jeffrey, Darcy, Kristina (Ian), Jennifer (Bradley), Eryn and great grandchildren Mabel, Matthew, Anna, Alisa and Andrew.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Avenue. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Main Street, West St. Paul.
Thank you to the staff of Kildonan Personnel Care Home for their compassionate care of our mom.
Just a prayer from the family who loved you, just a memory fond and true, in our hearts you will live forever, because we thought the world of you.
