It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ed Thomas on November 10, 2016.
Ed was born in Winnipeg, attended Sisler High School, and in 1976 graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science Degree. After graduation, Ed spent 37 years as a loyal and hardworking employee of the Canadian Wheat Board. He also embraced new experiences and adventures such as a sabbatical where he trained with the Winnipeg Police Force and a secondment to Ottawa where he helped review the Federal Cash Advance Payment Legislation. He greatly enjoyed the opportunity to travel throughout the country representing the CWB.
Ed retired in 2009 and planned to spend his summers on Manitoba Golf Courses and winters on Florida and Arizona golf courses. He always looked forward to golf vacations and fly in fishing trips with his lifelong friends. When he wasn’t on the golf course or practicing his swing on the driving range, he enjoyed bowling, weight lifting, biking, walking, yardwork or anything active. Ed knew something about everything and could thoughtfully engage in conversations about sports, politics, entertainment, weather, and everything in between.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his wife of 43 years Margaret, daughter Kristin, sisters Irene Butler (Rick), Elizabeth Thomas, Jean Feuillatre, Marie Thomas, Diane Mitchell (Salvatore Costanzo), many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, neighbours, and friends with which he shared his strength, wisdom, and insight.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Rose Thomas.
A special thanks to the caring and professional staff of the Palliative Care Program who will be remembered in our hearts as “angels disguised as nurses”.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ed may be made to the Palliative Care Endowment Fund through the St-Boniface Hospital Foundation: 409 Tache Avenue, Room C1026 Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6.
