Obituary of NINA PASESCHINKOFF
NINA PASESCHNIKOFF
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and babushka at the age of 88 years after a lengthy illness.
Nina was pre-deceased by her husband, Konstantin Sr. and most recently her eldest son, Walter (Vladimir).
Nina will be lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Guadalupe, daughter Julia(Edward), son Sergei (Marianne) and youngest son, Konstantin Jr.(Julia) and grandchildren, Vladimir, Tatiana, Anita, Sofia, Angelica, Larissa, Andre, Katarina, Daniel, Gregori and seven great-grandchildren whom she all loved dearly.
Nina was born on January 25, 1928 in South Russia. She and her husband, Konstantin, met during World War II and married on July 17, 1944 after a brief courtship in Austria where their 2 eldest children were born. In 1948 they moved to Venezuela where they had their third child. There they raised cattle, bees and sold produce at local markets for 17 years. In 1965 they moved to Canada and settled in Winnipeg where they had their fourth child.
They eventually bought land and settled in Oak Bluff, Manitoba where they ran their market gardening business.
Nina will be fondly remembered by customers and vendors at farmers markets around the Winnipeg area where she sold, for her expertise and customer interaction. Everyone remembered “Mama” when they met her.
Nina loved flowers. She grew many bedding plants in her greenhouses and gladiolas in her gardens that she sold to the public for many years from her home and markets.
But most of all, she loved her family. To her, family was everything.
The family would like to thank the staff at West Park Manor Personal Care Home for their care and compassion during the past few years.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 8 at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection, 732 Alfred Avenue at 10:00 AM, officiated by Father Raphael Vereshack.
Interment will follow at the Oak Bluff Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Nina’s memory.
