Obituary of WALTER (DANGERMAN) KOSTIUK
WALTER (DANGERMAN) KOSTIUK
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully on the morning of August 26, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Walter (Dangerman) Kostiuk was born on December 23, 1930 at the family home in Pulp River, Manitoba to Paul J and Annie Kostiuk. Walter was one of six children being the baby of the family. He grew up in the Pulp River area, attending school in Jubilee. Walter loved animals, especially dogs & would be seen with a dog side kick most of his life. Walter married "Maw" Sylvia Karpiak October 21, 1954. They resided in Pine River where they raised their three children.
Early in his life he worked for his brother cutting logs & also worked for Ontario Hydro. He soon started his own businesses; building a sawmill, sawing lumber & later in the pulp wood industry, road construction, bull dozing and ultimately used his skills as master mechanic and self taught machinist to repair or construct whatever he or his customer's needed. Dad operated as WK Repair for many years serving the community and surrounding areas of Pine River. Mom and Dad retired to Dauphin in 2005 where Dad continued to tinker with whatever friends brought around for a quick repair and often acted as consultant for old friends and customers for mechanical advice.
Dad was a vibrant and entertaining person. His ability to build, invent and improvise was always fascinating to us. He never threw anything out. Every piece of something had a purpose and we were intrigued how he could fix things using items that most people would throw in the trash. Dad was a problem solver and always knew there was a solution to anything that broke. He claimed he could fix anything..... but a broken heart.
Dad was kind, funny, stubborn and tough. He had a tremendous sense of humour, a love for life and was happiest when surrounded by friends and family sharing his stories and harmonica repertoire. Dad was a great story teller and recalled every detail of his experiences. His family was very important to him and He was very important to his family. We loved the person he was and deeply respected him. Didn't always agree with him but understood he was a man of conviction.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sylvia, daughters Valerie Adams, Marianne Enns, ‘beautiful’ son in law Terry, son Terry, daughter in law Patti, grandsons Tyler and Matthew, granddaughter Desiree (Dave), sister Kathryn Pfeiffer, sister in law Olha Kostiuk and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dad was predeceased by his parents Paul J and Annie Kostiuk, brothers Joseph, Johnny, Michael and sister Stella.
