Obituary of RAYMOND BADLO
RAYMOND BADLO
Peacefully during the early morning hours on August 11, 2016, Ray Badlo passed away at the age of 95.
Ray was born on March 13, 1921 to Simeon and Dora Badlo in Tluste, Ukraine. Together with sisters Mary and Stephanie, the family immigrated to Canada in 1930. Brothers Meron and Bill were later born in Canada.
Ray grew up in South Transcona (Navin Road) and was very active in baseball and hockey during his early years. In 1948, he married Gladys (Glady) Sleeva and they spent 42 happy years together until Glady’s passing in 1990. Ray and Glady led a very athletic lifestyle, participating in many outdoor sporting activities including hunting and fishing, dog trial retrieving competitions, pigeon racing, boating and waterskiing at their cottage at Red Rock Lake. They were active members of the Manitoba Gun Dog Association and Belgian Club. Ray was a painter by trade owning his own painting business and later worked as a supervisor for Taylor Painting and Decorating.
Ray and Glady lived much of their life together in South Transcona, then on an acreage in Anola. In later years, they enjoyed time in Apache Junction, Arizona. After Glady’s passing, Ray continued to winter in Arizona and later met his companion of twenty years, Mariann Tresnak.
Uncle Ray was the last surviving member of his generation of the Badlo family. He was predeceased by his wife Gladys, parents Simeon and Dora, brothers Meron and Bill (Del), sisters Mary Balanduk (Joe), Stephanie Stirling (Jim), (Peter Swyston), father-in-law Joseph Sleeva, mother-in-law Nellie Sleeva, brother-in-law Ed Sleeva (Bernice), sister-in-law Florence Yaworski (Anton) and sister-in-law Verna Sleeva.
He is survived by his companion Mariann Tresnak of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, brother-in-law Steve Sleeva, sister-in-law Elizabeth Sliwa as well as many nephews and nieces from the Badlo, Swyston, and Sleeva families and former neighbour Terry Kosowan.
The family thanks the staff at Donwood Manor and friend Donna for supporting Ray in his last few years.
