Obituary of TERESA SYTKOWSKI
TERESA SYTKOWSKI
It is with profound sadness we wish to announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and grandmother at Seven Oaks Hospital on August 6, 2016. She was predeceased be her cherished husband, Stanislaw, who died in 1998 and her four sisters – Lucia, Bolcia, Irka, and Stasia, and three brothers Zbyszek, Wacek, and Wladek. Teresa leaves behind to honour her memory, son, Les with wife Barbara (nee Kurylo) and their son Thomas; son Jacek (Jack) with his wife Heatherly (nee Tkatchuk) and their three children Adam, Kristy, and Joshua; and many nephews and nieces in Poland and Canada.
Teresa was born near Siedlce, Poland on March 11, 1931. Her early years, which included the war years, were spent in the countryside near that city. Shortly after the end of the Second World War, she left her family (at the age of sixteen) and moved to Warsaw where she met her future husband, Stanislaw. They were married in 1950 and lived in post war Warsaw until 1960. They immigrated in July of that year with their two young sons to Canada and settled in Winnipeg.
Soon after her arrival in Winnipeg, Teresa, began work in the garment industry as a seamstress and, even though she lacked fluency in the English language, quickly rose to the position of supervisor. She worked in the industry until the early 1990’s, when she retired.
During those years Teresa and Stanislaw worked hard to provide for their family. Teresa loved spending time with her growing family which included, by then, four grandchildren. She also enjoyed the company of her many friends. Over those years, Teresa remained close to the Polish community, regularly attending mass at Holy Ghost Church and volunteering at the Warsaw Poland Pavilion during Folklorama.
We would like to thank the staff of the Maples Personal Care Home for their compassionate care where she resided for the last several years.
