Obituary of FREDRICK MATHEW KNIGHT

FREDRICK MATHEW KNIGHT February 9, 1923 to July 30, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved dad, Fred Knight on July 30, 2016 at the age of 93, due to the effects of COPD. Our Dad was quite a guy. He lived a long and healthy life. Family and faith were very important to him. He was a WWII veteran. He worked as a Stationary Power Engineer all his life, retiring from Carlings O'Keefe Brewery. In 1948 he married Gloria and they had 8 children and 47 years together. After he retired he was our Mom’s sole care giver. He was a tireless man. Well into his 60’s he was still heavily involved the St. Alphonsus Parish, running and maintaining the boilers and pipes for the church and school. Dad was instrumental in the start-up of St. Alphonsus Credit Union, which later became Assiniboine Credit Union. He was a charter and active member of the Knights of Columbus. His service was commended by Pope Paul and he displayed his award proudly in his modest home. Up until a few years ago he was an usher at the 9:00 am mass. We all have many memories of him that make us laugh and cry. Dad unselfishly made the world a little bit better for many people. He leaves to mourn his niece Barb Pertson, his children Nora and Patrick McDermid, Margaret and Verne McKernan, Tim and Dalyce Knight, Shirley and Paul Mann, Elinor and Ken Friesen, Elizabeth and Robert Amborsky, Richard and Karen Knight, 18 grandchildren and their spouses, 5 great grandchildren and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his wife Gloria, his daughter Kathleen Kirk and her husband Robert and Frank Pertson. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 6 at 10:00 am in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Brazier and Munroe Ave. Private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ALS Society. Peace and Love, your buddy, Fred
