Obituary of ROBERT (BOB) GANNON
ROBERT (BOB) GANNON
Peacefully, on July 19, 2016, Bob Gannon passed away.
He leaves behind Linda Dooley, his partner of many years, his daughters Maureen Fergus (Nick) and Angela Robbie (Michael), his son Steven, his beloved grandchildren Rowan, Hannah, Sophie and Sam, his sisters Patricia Ann and Kathy (Pasha), his brother Terry (Rosemary) and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Pat, his mother Kay and his brothers Edmund Brian (Candice) and Lorne Francis.
Bob was born and grew up in Timmins, Ontario. Following high school he moved to Toronto, Ontario where he met and married Judee Regan. After brief stints in Ottawa and Regina, the couple settled in Winnipeg, where they raised a family and shared countless good times with many dear friends. Bob’s career eventually took the family to Brantford, Ontario but after a few years, opportunity knocked and it was back to Winnipeg once more.
Bob earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Manitoba. He was a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute. During his career, Bob held executive level positions in both the private and public sectors. Bob’s volunteer commitments were many and varied and included serving as Campaign and Board Chair for the United Way of Winnipeg, as Chairman of the Board of St. Boniface Hospital, as a member of the St. Paul’s College Board of Governors and as an Honorary Director of the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, to name just a few.
Bob lived life to the absolute fullest. He was well-read and travelled extensively. He played golf and snooker and was an avid walker. He loved a lively discussion almost as much as he loved a good joke. He was an incorrigible punster and a true friend. He cherished his family and would have done anything for any one of them.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bob’s name can be made to the United Way of Winnipeg.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the Promenade Ballroom of the Norwood Hotel (112 Marion Street). Guests will have an opportunity to get up and share a favourite memory of Bob with family and friends.
