BERNIE NARYNSKI

Obituary of BERNIE NARYNSKI

BERNIE NARYNSKI Peacefully in his sleep on July 9, 2012, Bernie Narynski, 90 years of age, beloved husband of the late Helen Narynski, passed into God's hands. He leaves to mourn in Winnipeg: his daughter Linda Narynski; precious granddaughter Lisa Narynski (Chris Svingen); great-grandchildren Syrus and Solani Svingen; family in Edmonton: his daughter Judy (Ernie Plese); granddaughter Elvira (Mike); great-grandson, Carver; family in Dallas, TX: sister-in-law, Jean (Dearyl Pennington), and special nieces Janis Bell and Cindy Tune. Bernie also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and neighbours. Bernie was predeceased by his wife Helen in 1995; parents Katherine (1970) and Gregory Narynski (1962); sisters, Mary Montgomery and Nell Bodnaruk, and brother Joseph Narynski. Bernie was born on October 10, 1921 on Burrows Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was there that he shared an amazing and adventurous childhood with best friends, Ray Jiggs Krueger, Joe Doskosh and Sid Gutnik along with many others. Just down Burrows Avenue, lived a beautiful young girl named Helen Zakowicz who would capture Bernie's heart and soul, while she gave a mandolin performance at Sokol Hall. Bernie took one look at Helen and was in love for life! Bernie was drafted into the Second World War. Bernie often said that the war was the best and the worst thing that ever happened to him. It taught him how to be a man but it showed him things no man should ever experience. After being wounded in action overseas Bernie eventually returned home to resume his life with Helen. They were married in 1945 and raised their daughters Linda and Judy. It was a good life and Bernie was happy. Bernie got his start at Parkhill Upholstering then worked for the Highways Department as Chief Engineer doing asphalt design mixes which he won awards for across Canada. Bernie had a strong work ethic and he had a few side businesses of upholstering and TV repair. Working was fun to him, and he was always joking around with the guys or whistling while he worked. He MADE it fun! After 35 years of working, Bernie took full advantage of his retirement, filling his days with gardening, woodworking, photography, doing crosswords, going for coffee to Tim Horton's. Bernie was passionate about music and more often than not, Lansdowne was lit up with the sounds of the Big Bands, Frank Sinatra and Keely Smith! Bernie beamed with pride as his family grew. He was excited when his granddaughter Elvira was born. The Sunday Family dinners we all shared were always memorable! He was thrilled when, five years ago Bernie was granted the joy of great-grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Syrus and Solani. From the day his granddaughter Lisa was brought home from the hospital on New Year's Eve 1967, there was a special bond that Bernie shared with her. She was his side-kick, his right-hand girl, they were the dynamic-duo! Gramps and Lee Lee never missed talking together a day in their lives and they never, ever missed spending a New Year's Eve together, not once, in their entire lives. In the last five months of Bernie's life, Lisa moved in with her Precious Mouse so that he could remain living in his home. Bernie was always making someone laugh or smile with a joke or funny story. His motto was: Always leave em laughing! His fun-loving, free spirit made everyone immediately comfortable. Bernie was a man with an indelible spirit and lived a life to be celebrated! The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks, Floor 5, Unit 4 for their care of Bernie in his final days. We would also like to thank the W.R.H.A. Homecare for caring for Bernie and granting him his wish to stay in his house, especially Joyce, Terry and Maggie who formed such wonderful bonds with Bernie. Special thanks to Tracey Eaton-Harris for ALL of her amazing care and dedication that she gave to Gramps in his final months. We are truly Grateful for all the care that Gramps received. Big thanks to Teresa Loxton. Huge shout out to Hip Hip Machray for opening their beautiful arms when we needed it the most. To Christopher, Thank You for ALL you did for Gramps always. Your Love and support is appreciated more than you'll ever know.
